Extreme Medical Services

It’s October and I am SO EXCITED because it means that spooky season is in full swing! I’ve had my house decorated for Halloween since Labor Day and I am determined to enjoy all of the awesomeness that this fall has to offer. So, of course, my book choices are going to reflect the time of year. I’m not much of a horror person - I leave the gruesome and macabre to Jeriann - but I loooooooove me some fantasy. Especially urban fantasy. Since the sequel to Hypnos hasn’t been released yet (dangit) and the next Patricia Briggs book isn’t out until March 2021, I went with something new.

Then There Were Nun

My love of paranormal mysteries started with a discussion with my mom. We were talking about books we enjoy and I mentioned that, while I love fluffy romance novels that stop my brooding over things going on in my life, I often need a challenge for my brain. I had previously been solving my need for challenge with thrillers by authors like Mary Higgins Clark, but they tended to make me more broody. That was when Mom handed me my first paranormal mystery romance - a book by Heather Graham, who I did an author spotlight on in 2018.

Resurrection

kay, so I couldn’t just stop reading the fantasy genre cold turkey. Just because Halloween is over does not mean that we have to give up the paranormal altogether. Besides, I didn’t review any vampire books last month!

Bless Your Heart

If you read my review of Hypnos, you know that I can be picky about adult urban fantasy books. There are concepts that I have no interest in exploring and there are a lot of plotlines that I consider overdone and don’t really want to read over and over. As a result, I rarely go looking for urban fantasy novels. Instead, I wait to find them in the wild.

The Vine Witch

As I mentioned before, I’m using October as an excuse to read all of the fantasy books that are cluttering up my to-read list. I was really excited to include The Vine Witch in the list of books I set aside to review for October because it’s written by a new author! Any chance I get to read new authors (and find new books/series to obsess over), I’m taking it.

Anya’s Ghost

Anya’s Ghost is the story of Anya. The teenaged daughter of a single mother, Anya’s family moved to the US from Russia just before she started school. Anya attends a private high school (the third worst in the state, according to her) where she tries her best to blend in with her all-American classmates.
