I have been watching the reboot of Charmed and it’s put me in the mood for some kick-ass ladies with supernatural abilities. So, when I saw Ever Strange on Amazon, I decided it was worth starting a new series to satisfy my craving - even though I did zero research on the book in advance, other than reading the blurb on Amazon. And let me tell you, this book delivers supernatural-ability-wielding kick-ass women in spades.
I have reviewed a couple of Linda Howard books since this blog started, but I recently came across Mackenzie’s Legacy in a trip to the bookstore and I got really excited. I had already read three of the Mackenzie Family novels and this copy has two that I hadn’t read yet: Mackenzie’s Mountain and Mackenzie’s Mission. I’m only going to review Mackenzie’s Mountain today, because I have a lot of things to say about it, but I have now read all of the books in the Mackenzie Family series and I’ll probably talk a bit about them toward the end of this review, as well.
I came across Never Say Spy by Diane Henders in the Kindle bookstore and I couldn’t resist buying it. You all know I’m a huge fan of romances and I love to sink myself into a good series where I can escape for days, but that’s not why I wanted to buy this book. Nope. I bought Never Say Spy because I wanted to lose myself in a different kind of fantasy: Good Girl Gone Spy 😉
April Showers bring May Flowers and since it’s May, I thought I’d review a book that’s named after a flower! I first read The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy as a sophomore in high school. Recently, the manager at one of my part-time jobs and I were discussing our favorite authors. She mentioned that she has always been a big fan of the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen. I asked if she had ever read The Scarlet Pimpernel and she hadn’t even heard of the book.
If you’ve read my reviews of the Web of Lies series or Chosen for Power by Kathleen Brooks, you already know that she writes book series that I track obsessively. Well, she recently released the first book of a new series about the small North Carolina town of Shadow’s Landing - a series that intersects with the several series she has written about the town of Keeneston, Kentucky.
I got Sparrow, by L.J. Shen, as a free book on Kindle. This one intrigued me because it made the Amazon International Best Sellers list and those books don't often make my radar. I decided to review it because St. Patrick's Day is upon us and this one's all about the Irish mob in Boston. Seems fitting, right?
