A Sports Romance While My Beloved Sports are Away

I think I’m going to need to start paying for a television package just so I can watch sports. I mean, I was doing fine before the pandemic started. Then, all of a sudden, if there was a game I wanted to watch, I couldn’t go to a bar and see it and soon after that, many sports were cancelled altogether. This is relevant to the review, I swear! I started picking up sport romances to console myself from the sudden dearth of sports in my life, and now my Kindle queue is full of various fictional athletes and their potential love interests, which is how I ended up reading The Chase.

Fixie Farr Finds a Favor

When I read the blurb for I Owe You One, I was immediately excited to start reading the book. Set in England, the story follows a girl everyone calls Fixie - because she has a compulsion to fix things. When a stranger asks her to watch his laptop in a coffee shop while he takes a call, she is happy to help. And when she ends up saving the stranger’s laptop from disaster, he insists on giving her an IOU for a favor. According to the blurb, a hilarious bout of favor-trading and love-falling ensues.

Miscommunication as Romance in One Taste of You

One Taste of You was the first contemporary romance to catch my eye in a while. The blurb claims that after one super-hot night together, homicide detective Zeke Chance made a stupid mistake and never expected to see Zoe Sullivan again. When a killer goes after Zoe, Zeke takes the opportunity to make up for his error. Cute, right? So, I picked it up.

If you know me - or if you’ve read any of my reviews in the past - you read the content notes for this post and thought, “Bethany read this? That doesn’t sound like her style…” You would be correct. The blurb for this book did NOT prepare me for the amount of trauma the characters experience, which is a large part of why I have chosen to review it.

The Deceit Duet

I’ve been had, reader! Tricked, duped, swindled, bamboozled, deceived even! I “purchased” Bride, the first book in The Deceit Duet by Logan Chance, for free on Amazon Kindle. By the time I was hooked, I realized that this was not going to be a standalone romance. I would have to buy Groom to find out what happens to the characters...so, of course, I did. Luckily, Groom was only $2.99, so I’m only a little bitter...

Sizzle

Today is Patriot Day in the United States, so I knew I wanted to review a contemporary romantic suspense novel with an FBI or CIA agent as a character. When I saw Sizzle, by Julie Garwood, in the queue of books I have crowding up my Kindle app, I knew it was the one. Julie Garwood always engages me with her strong protagonists - both male and female - and the unlikely events that she puts them through.

Big Shot

I don’t know what it is about summer, but I always struggle to read the heavy stuff during the warmest months of the year. I’ve been reading a lot of light romances - a surprising number of which have multiple authors, like this review I did earlier this month - and this one fulfilled my need for summer fluff quite nicely.

Today is my dad’s birthday!!! In celebration, I decided to review a book about an awesome dad (because my dad is AWESOME. Ask anyone). Caveat: that’s pretty much where the similarities end between this character and my dad.

The Decoy Bride

Amazon Kindle’s “Recommended for You” list got me again, guys! I’m telling you, I need to stop looking at that list or I’m going to have to get another part time job to afford my book addiction (since employers don’t hire people they have to pay benefits to anymore…) This time, it recommendedThe Decoy Bride by Lizzie Shane and I happened to be looking desperately for some kind of light-hearted hijinx to help me ride the tide of emotions from the last book I read. Of course this one caught my attention!
