One Taste of You was the first contemporary romance to catch my eye in a while. The blurb claims that after one super-hot night together, homicide detective Zeke Chance made a stupid mistake and never expected to see Zoe Sullivan again. When a killer goes after Zoe, Zeke takes the opportunity to make up for his error. Cute, right? So, I picked it up.
It. Is. Too. Hot. I have been dealing with this year’s ridiculous heat wave by watching Christmas Rom Coms - watching people shiver in too-cold air is a good way to find myself appreciating the 100-degree-plus weather. When I saw this book on my Book Bub list, I thought it was the perfect way to cool down and get some much-needed time away from my television.
After the last book that I read - a contemporary military romantic suspense - I wanted a change of pace. I still wanted to read a romance novel; my boyfriend and I have an anniversary approaching and romance is in the air. So, I chose a period romance set in England and the Scottish Highlands.
Susan Stoker is one of my favorite Romantic Suspense authors. She has that title partially because her books always include some kind of external conflict (unlike many romance novels that rely on interpersonal drama for the conflict) and partially because the first book in all of her series are FREE!
I’ve been had, reader! Tricked, duped, swindled, bamboozled, deceived even! I “purchased” Bride, the first book in The Deceit Duet by Logan Chance, for free on Amazon Kindle. By the time I was hooked, I realized that this was not going to be a standalone romance. I would have to buy Groom to find out what happens to the characters...so, of course, I did. Luckily, Groom was only $2.99, so I’m only a little bitter...
Today is Patriot Day in the United States, so I knew I wanted to review a contemporary romantic suspense novel with an FBI or CIA agent as a character. When I saw Sizzle, by Julie Garwood, in the queue of books I have crowding up my Kindle app, I knew it was the one. Julie Garwood always engages me with her strong protagonists - both male and female - and the unlikely events that she puts them through.
I mentioned in my review of Good Christian B****es that I bought the book from a 2 for $8 sale rack. Seeing Red was the second book I bought that day and I cannot wait to tell you about it!
I have been watching the reboot of Charmed and it’s put me in the mood for some kick-ass ladies with supernatural abilities. So, when I saw Ever Strange on Amazon, I decided it was worth starting a new series to satisfy my craving - even though I did zero research on the book in advance, other than reading the blurb on Amazon. And let me tell you, this book delivers supernatural-ability-wielding kick-ass women in spades.
I have reviewed a couple of Linda Howard books since this blog started, but I recently came across Mackenzie’s Legacy in a trip to the bookstore and I got really excited. I had already read three of the Mackenzie Family novels and this copy has two that I hadn’t read yet: Mackenzie’s Mountain and Mackenzie’s Mission. I’m only going to review Mackenzie’s Mountain today, because I have a lot of things to say about it, but I have now read all of the books in the Mackenzie Family series and I’ll probably talk a bit about them toward the end of this review, as well.
I came across Never Say Spy by Diane Henders in the Kindle bookstore and I couldn’t resist buying it. You all know I’m a huge fan of romances and I love to sink myself into a good series where I can escape for days, but that’s not why I wanted to buy this book. Nope. I bought Never Say Spy because I wanted to lose myself in a different kind of fantasy: Good Girl Gone Spy 😉
