The Romance of Innocent Plots and Desperate Schemes

Dear Reader, Have you ever read a book and thought, “This is not what the blurb made me think it was?” Sometimes, that’s a good thing - even occasionally a great thing - because the plot takes you on an unexpected adventure. Sometimes, though, it makes you long for the plot-you-thought-could-be, and you are disappointed…

Never Say Spy

I came across Never Say Spy by Diane Henders in the Kindle bookstore and I couldn’t resist buying it. You all know I’m a huge fan of romances and I love to sink myself into a good series where I can escape for days, but that’s not why I wanted to buy this book. Nope. I bought Never Say Spy because I wanted to lose myself in a different kind of fantasy: Good Girl Gone Spy 😉

The Selection

I first noticed The Selection, by Kiera Cass, at the Barnes & Noble in the Mayo Clinic when my sister was admitted there for a few days while I was in graduate school. I am a sucker for a YA dystopian story with a strong female lead and this one seemed right up my ally - there was romance, intrigue, and even a prince. The Selection is not a stand alone novel and that is pretty clear from the description of the book. So, I bought the series.
