It’s October and I am SO EXCITED because it means that spooky season is in full swing! I’ve had my house decorated for Halloween since Labor Day and I am determined to enjoy all of the awesomeness that this fall has to offer. So, of course, my book choices are going to reflect the time of year. I’m not much of a horror person - I leave the gruesome and macabre to Jeriann - but I loooooooove me some fantasy. Especially urban fantasy. Since the sequel to Hypnos hasn’t been released yet (dangit) and the next Patricia Briggs book isn’t out until March 2021, I went with something new.
Resurrection
kay, so I couldn’t just stop reading the fantasy genre cold turkey. Just because Halloween is over does not mean that we have to give up the paranormal altogether. Besides, I didn’t review any vampire books last month!
The Vine Witch
As I mentioned before, I’m using October as an excuse to read all of the fantasy books that are cluttering up my to-read list. I was really excited to include The Vine Witch in the list of books I set aside to review for October because it’s written by a new author! Any chance I get to read new authors (and find new books/series to obsess over), I’m taking it.
Cry Wolf
Since we started this blog in October and our inaugural post was the first book in the Mercy Thompson series, we thought it would be fun to review another Patricia Briggs book for our anniversary.
Anya’s Ghost
Anya’s Ghost is the story of Anya. The teenaged daughter of a single mother, Anya’s family moved to the US from Russia just before she started school. Anya attends a private high school (the third worst in the state, according to her) where she tries her best to blend in with her all-American classmates.
Ever Strange
I have been watching the reboot of Charmed and it’s put me in the mood for some kick-ass ladies with supernatural abilities. So, when I saw Ever Strange on Amazon, I decided it was worth starting a new series to satisfy my craving - even though I did zero research on the book in advance, other than reading the blurb on Amazon. And let me tell you, this book delivers supernatural-ability-wielding kick-ass women in spades.
First Grave on the Right
Overall, First Grave on the Right was a fun read if you want some light laughs and don’t want to think very hard.

I haven’t read a lot of Amy Tan, but I remember reading Joy Luck Club in school, and I’ve always had a slight interest in reading more of her books. I read the blurb on the inside, and thought, “This looks really interesting..."
